kleinphoto > This frame is our favorite of Shaydie so far, and partly of it is the result of a happy accident. We were shooting a high-key fashion styled shoot in KP Studio-1 for Shaydie's portfolio and potentially as her yearbook shot. We made a few images then previewed them on the big screen, and although we liked quite a few we all knew that something special was missing to make the shot really stand out. So we went back into the studio, Shaydie amped up the "fierce" and we shot a few more frames in rapid succession. On this, the final frame, the main light was still recycling so did not fire. We probably would not plan to light a fashion shot like a portrait, but the beautiful light falloff and dramatic effect speak for themselves.
kleinphoto > "Jeans ad" Shot in Boulder Mountain Parks on top of Flagstaff Mountain.
kleinphoto > "WHB Side" shows off Shaydie's figure in a catalog style setup.
kleinphoto > "Making of a storm" was the result of model vs. wind on top of Flagstaff Mountain.
kleinphoto > "Soft beauty" was shot using a combination of natural light, a white reflector and a ring light strobe.
kleinphoto > "Climbing up!" looks scary thanks to clever placement and a telephoto lens. The really scary part of this shoot was the 100+ degree heat.
kleinphoto > "Loose hair" was made as a candid during an initial test shoot with Shaydie, using only available light.
kleinphoto > "At the wall" shows Shaydie portray some skater punk 'tude while still standing out against the colorful background, and was shot with the strong available light and a white reflector.
kleinphoto > "A little softer" proves that even without her fierce on Shaydie still stands out, and was shot available light with a gold reflector to warm the look of the shot and match the model's skin tones more closely to the green background.
kleinphoto > "Buy this bike!" was made at the skate park, where we spotted a local with a bike that perfectly matched Shaydie's outfit. The young man was more than happy to surrender his bike. The frame was made with available light only, using the concrete as a reflector.
kleinphoto > "Weee!" shows Shaydie cooling off during a long and gruelingly hot shoot near Boulder Creek, and was made with only available light with the the water acting as a diffuse reflector.
kleinphoto > "Professor Shaydie" was part of a highly complex shoot done in a public high school classroom designed to produce portfolio shots for Shaydie and stockphoto shots for Klein Photo. Lighting includes 2 Elincrom studio strobes, the main reflecting off a 6' umbrella and the fill through a softbox. The glasses are only a prop.
kleinphoto > "Inspecting the batch" was made to match a set of stockphoto images. The formulas on the board in the background were all written by Shaydie while she waiting for us to set up the lighting. This type of shot presents a myriad of challenges in lighting and simplifying the background objects.
kleinphoto > "I've done it!" is one of the more fun results of this otherwise fairly serious session using dry ice to create the bubbling formula for our mad scientist Shaydie.
